But there are things you can do to maintain good oral hygiene for healthy teeth, gums and mouth.
1. Good Oral Hygiene
The first is a good daily oral hygiene routine. This should consist of brushing your teeth at least twice daily [morning and night] and if you can, also brushing after lunch.
Flossing is another key component to a healthy mouth. We recommend flossing after meals, but if you can’t, be sure to floss your teeth before bed.
A corollary of a good oral hygiene habit is to use fluoridated products, as they prevent tooth decay.
2. Eat Properly / Nutrition
The second is to maintain good eating / nutritional habits. This means staying away from soft drinks and items containing high levels of sugar. Sugar is known to cause tooth decay.
3. Schedule Regular Check Ups
And the third is to have your teeth and mouth checked regularly by a dentist. Regular visits to the dentist will result in early detection of anything going wrong, from obtaining advice on your oral hygiene habits, to early detection of cavities, to identification and correction of any tooth or oral problems.
4. A Stitch In Time Saves Nine
There’s an old saying that,
“a stitch in time, saves nine“.
This advice is also true of dentistry and health care in general.
By taking care of things as they arise, and correcting harmful behaviors, you will save a lot of money, time and angst.
